Weeks 22-27

I got laid off. I wasn’t expecting to have this recorded publicly, for posterity. I was the only Quality expert in my department, meaning that they are now without a Quality Engineer. It’s like removing the foundation of a house and expecting it to stay up. I don’t think they realize how difficult it will be to navigate audits next year without a dedicated QE. Not my problem anymore… I’m getting a severance and I’m cashing out some savings. Not ideal, but I can hold out for something good instead of being desperate like I was in I was in my 20s.

I immediately dove into my volunteer time at Convergence Con the following week. Now that I’m back and the 4th holiday is over, my phone and email is exploding with job-search related stuff. I have my first in person interview since being laid off tomorrow (Thursday), and more phone chats in the next few days. Looking for work has been a full time job, and not a fun one.

“Oh, why did you move to Minnesota?” …ugh I’d rather not answer that one.

“Why did you leave your food safety job?” …ugh Can’t say sexual harassment and actual harassment now can I?

So that’s what’s going on. I’ve only managed mostly doodles, but at least I’m doing something.
